Alice Faye Brown, born in Nashville, North Carolina to Everette and Odell Lucas-Mitchell, was the eldest of nine children. Her journey through life was marked by resilience, faith, and an unwavering love for her family and community.
Alice received her high school education at Nash Technical School and later in life returned to school and received her nurse aide certification at Nash Community College.
As a young woman, Alice left home at an early age to seek a better living. She relocated to New York, and then Reading, PA, before eventually settling in Newport News, VA. It was there she met and married John Webster Brown and together, their family unit expanded to ten children.
Preceded in death by her parents Everette and Odell Mitchell, husband John Brown, sons Donald and Marcus Mitchell, grandson Kenneth Fleet Jr., sister Louise Buchanan, brothers Roger and Charles Mitchell, and extended family member Marion Alston, Alice's legacy lives on through her surviving family. She leaves behind children Brenda Mitchell, Linda Fleet (Mark), Tracey Brown, Dwayne Brown (Denise), Anthony Brown (Jacki), Dana Brown, Kathy Brown (Erick), and Latonya Brown, along with over 30 grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Her memory is also cherished by her brothers Everette, McArthur, and Percell Mitchell, sisters Marilyn Staton (Larry) and Phyllis Bullock (Melvin), brothers-in-law Daniel and Frank Brown, sister-in-law Lula Mae Brown, numerous nieces and nephews, and a circle of loving friends.
