Barbara Champion Patterson

Barbara C. Patterson humbly bowed to God's will and peacefully and quietly entered into eternal rest on Tuesday, September 2, 2025, at Atrium Health, Pineville, North Carolina.

The daughter of the late Colie and Emma Dixon Champion was born August 23, 1949, in Kershaw, South Carolina.

Barbara attended Hillside High School in Heath Springs, South Carolina. She found Christ at an early age and became a member of First Kershaw Baptist Church where she accepted the servitude and responsibility of a dedicated church member and served faithfully in the following capacities: Deaconess Ministry, President of the Pastor's Aide and Kitchen Committee, Member of the Senior Choir and Senior Missionary Ministry. She also served on the Usher Board until her health no longer permitted.

Barbara was also a member of the Willing Travelers and the LaHi Women Club. She was a dedicated former employee with Springs Industries, Inc, for 21 years.

She was united in holy matrimony to the late George E. Patterson, Sr. on May 16, 1967, and was the mother of three children.

Barbara was a loving mother, grandmother, and friend and will be truly missed by all who knew and loved her. She embraced life and enjoyed conversing, cooking, shopping, helping others, and spending time with family, friends, church family, and classmates.

Barbara also had a passion for attending quartet programs where she was personally escorted by her niece, Elaine White.

She leaves to cherish fond and loving memories, two daughters: Wanda Denise Lawson (David), Temple Hill, Maryland; Sharon Renee McCain (Warren), Lancaster, South Carolina; and one son, George Edward Patterson, Jr. (Shaneka), Lancaster, South Carolina, seven grandchildren; Shadonna (Maurice), Zaccheus, Darious, Deondra, Danté, ZaKaden, ZaKara, two great grandchildren, Maverick and Madyson; one brother, Vernon Champion (Helen), Lancaster, South Carolina; one brother-in-law, Clinton Patterson, one god daughter, Chemere Champion, and a multitude who considered her as a god mom, a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, a very special friend since elementary school, Alma Izzard, along with two other very dear friends, Elsie Ingram and Jackie Dinkins.

She was preceded in death by three sisters and four brothers.
