Betty Turner Obituary

Mrs. Betty J. Turner humbly accepted God's will and entered into peaceful rest on January 27, 2026, while in the care of Hospice of Yonkers, New York.

Betty was born on October 7, 1941, in Lancaster, South Carolina, to the late James Tillman and Vivian Clyburn Drafton.

She was a devoted homemaker and was united in holy matrimony to Mr. Walter Turner, who preceded her in death. Betty accepted Christ at an carly age and remained faithful throughout her life.

She received her education at Lancaster Training Center and graduated from Barr Street High School, where she was a star player on the Golden Tiger basketball team. Betty had a lifelong love for sports, and her favorite team was the New York Knicks.

In her youth, playing cards was a favorite family pastime. She loved playing spades, and "talking noise" was a must when her team won. Betty also enjoyed traveling and attending the Clyburn Family Reunion. She truly enjoyed life to the fullest, and her greatest passion was preparing delicious meals for her family. To know Betty was to love her; she was respected and cherished throughout her family.

Betty was preceded in death by her son, Sgt. Lamont Turner.

She leaves to cherish her loving memory four daughters: Mrs. Valerie J, Sims (Jerry) of Rock Hill, SC; Ms. Amita Drafton of Lancaster, SC; Ms. Soniette Rochell Tumer Wright of Bronx, NY: and Mrs. Colleen Yvette Smith (Matthew) of Indian Land, SC: three sisters, Mrs. Lucy M. Reed of Winston-Salem, NC; Mrs. Ruth I.McIlwain of Lancaster, SC; and Ms. Eunestine T. Harris of Charlotte, NC; one sister-in-law, Mrs. Shirley Draffin of Lancaster, SC; nine grandchildren; sixteen great-grandchildren; four great-great-grandchildren; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives, and friends.

In addition to her husband and son, she was preceded in death by two brothers, Henry L. Draffin and James Tillman, and two sisters, Georgia Belton and Lula Ballard.
