Blease Wilson Crawford, 80, passed away on November 10, 2023 at Mecklenburg Health and
Rehabilitation Center, Charlotte, NC. The son of the late Rev. Blease C. Crawford and the late
Cleo Elizabeth Smith Crawford, he was born in Kershaw County, SC on June 2, 1943, the fourth
of eight children.
Wilson accepted Christ as his Savior and joined Black Creek Baptist Church at an early age. The
family moved to Kershaw, SC where he later joined First Kershaw Missionary Baptist Church
and was a member of the Church Choir. While in Kershaw, he was a member of the Order of
Masonics.
Wilson graduated from Hillside High School, Heath Springs, SC in 1961.
Wilson was united in holy matrimony to love of his life, Peggy Jean Shropshire Crawford in
1965 until she departed this earthly home on January 7, 1975.
While in Kershaw, Wilson was employed by Springs Mills.
Wilson was a devoted sports fan, especially baseball. He was the third baseman for the Kershaw
Pirates Baseball team, wearing number 31 (his teammates called him “Tippy”) until he moved to
Charlotte, NC. He also had a love for working on cars, always performing maintenance on cars
for family, neighbors and friends. He loved his 1957 Chevrolet which he affectionately named
Nellie Bell.
After moving to Charlotte, NC, Wilson was employed by Scandura Incorporated until his
retirement on May 28, 2008 after 30.5 years of service. He was a member of Life Baptist
Church. While at Life, Wilson was the First Deacon for the Church, was a member of the Gospel
Choir and helped with the upkeep of the church grounds. He served all these positions until his
health declined but maintained the title of Deacon Emeritus.
He is preceded in death by his wife, Peggy; his parents; brothers, Eugene (Pete) Crawford,
Joseph Crawford and Lonnie Crawford; and his sister, Victoria Harris.
Wilson leaves to cherish his memories; his daughter, Lois Crawford (Victor) Wilform of Rock
Hill, SC; his sons, Melvin L. (Tammy) Drakeford of Woodbridge, VA; Kevin M. (Veronica)
Crawford and Marvin (Nicole) Crawford of Charlotte, NC. He is also survived by his brothers;
Vester Crawford and Jerry Crawford and his sister, Annette C. Pate; eleven grandchildren, Cory,
Derrick, Victoria, Candace, Shayla, Ashley, Keyonna, Paris, Imani, Bryan, Elizabeth, seven
great grandchildren, Camryn, Jaden, TaZaria, Jordan, Sylas, Noelle, Ezra, nieces, nephews and a
host of many cousins, other relatives and friends.
