Catherine White Obituary

Catherine Truesdale White, born in Lancaster, South Carolina to the late Potee and Beulah Mills Truesdale departed this life on November 2, 2024 in Philadelphia, Pa. She was the 7 th of nine children. four preceded her in death, Elton, Mae Ida, Cleona, Mildred and Loretta. She was reared in a Christian home and accepted Christ as her personal savior at an early age. She attended Mt. Calvary AME Zion Church while living in South Carolina. After moving to Philadelphia, PA, she joined Wesley AME Zion Church where she was a faithful member serving on the Senior Usher Board, Missionary Board and the Lay Council. She was educated in the Lancaster S.C. Public School System, graduating from Barr Street High School class of 1957. She furthered her education enrolling at Benedict College, Columbia, South Carolina, graduating in 1961 with a Bachelor of Arts Degree.

Catherine left South Carolina in 1962 relocating to Strasburg, Virginia where she taught in the school system for several years. She later relocated to Chestertown, Maryland and continued to teach for several more years. Catherine, realized this was not her calling, so she moved to Philadelphia, Pennsylvania in 1964 where she united with her high school sweet heart, Wilbert White. They were married in 1965 and to this union one daughter was born, Andrea Michele.

Catherine was a kind hearted person and always wanted to help the less fortunate so she applied with the Department of Public Welfare as a Caseworker and held that position for five years. She later applied for supervisory position and held that position for 26 years until she retired in 1999.

Catherine leaves to cherish fond memories one daughter, Andrea White McClendon, one granddaughter Savannah Rose McClendon two sisters, Ophelia T. McIlwain of Capital Heights MD, Alfreda T. Gaither of Lancaster, SC, one brother, Rev. Curtis Truesdale (Delores) of Lovingston, VA, brother -in- law, Marvin White of Lancaster, SC, sister-in- law, Mary Singleton of Lawrenceville, GA and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends. Mother your memory to us is a keepsake with which we will never part; although God has you in His keeping, we will always have you in our hearts.
