Charles Smith Obituary

Charles H. Smith, age 75, was born on October 16, 1948 to the late Moses Smith, Sr. and the late Earlene Truesdale Smith.

Charles departed his earthly life on January 15, 2024, at MUSC, Lancaster, S.C.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by an infant son, NaKeithan Smith, two military brothers, Moses Smith, Jr., and Crawford Smith, both of Lancaster, S.C. As well as a sister-in-law Janie W. Montgomery (Joshua) of Elgin, S.C., and brother-in-law Charles Watts (Joyce) of Laurens, S.C.

Charles was retired from Springs and Mohawk Industries.

Charles was truly a people – oriented person! He enjoyed conversing and being humorous to uplift, enlighten and just take time to chat with others.  His other pass-time favorites included visiting and assisting the elderly – often singing uplifting spirituals. Along with watching T.V. court channels, and frequenting unique restaurants with family and friends. Traveling to new places was a passion as well, such as: Germany, California, New Orleans, New York, New Jersey, Pennsylvania, Washington, DC, Florida, Texas, and many more states.  He was also a car enthusiast and bike show observer! However, it was essential that he travel to visit, bond, and spend quality time with his son, daughter-in-law, and three active grands, in Little River, S.C.

Charles served as president of the Duncan Family Reunion. He also continued to serve his 1966 Barr Street High School class as alumni president, until he was called home.  His final reunion with classmates and some former instructors, and guests was held on December 9, 2023.

Even on the days when Charles did not feel his best he would humor the medical providers, ensuing an indelible mark!

Above all and most importantly valued was his devout religious Chistian beliefs and his commitment to being a true gentleman!  Charles was currently serving as a trustee, and a second tenure as church treasurer, previously having served in the capacity of church secretary, and singing on the all-male choir.

He leaves to cherish his memories a loving wife, of fifty-one blissful years, Nancy Williams Smith, and son, NaBarrett Smith (Jacqueline), along with their three adorable children, Brianna, Brennan, and Britnae of Little River, S.C.

Charles is also survived by two brothers, Tommy Truesdale (Elata) of Greer, S.C., and Corkey Smith of Anderson, S.C. Along with, two sisters, Priscilla Smith McGriff of Columbia, S.C., and Pamela Smith Hubbard (Anthony) of McDonough, GA. And sisters-in-law Fannie C. Smith of Spartanburg, S.C, Adrienna H. Smith, and Linda S. Smith of Lancaster, S.C.

Also left to cherish his fondest memories are his brother-in-law David L. Williams, Jr. of Enoree, S.C., Winfort W. Jennings (Frank) of Dallas, TX, Joyce W. Watts of Laurens, S.C. And family confidant and friend Ms. Nettie M. Wright, and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, relatives, and friends.
