Obituary for Cohen Greer Jr.
Cohen Greer Jr., a beloved husband, father, grandfather, and servant of God, passed away peacefully on April 25, 2025, at the age of 67. Born in Union, South Carolina, he was the son of the late Cohen Greer and the late Anna Pearl Ruth.
Educated in the Union County School District, Cohen continued his academic journey, earning a Bachelor of Science degree in Business Administration from Pfeiffer University. His professional career was distinguished and successful; he retired as a systems and database engineer.
Cohen's passion for mentorship and leadership extended beyond his career. He coached basketball, soccer, baseball, and tennis, shaping the lives of countless young people through his dedication and example. A martial artist at heart, he was the proud former owner of Greer's Martial Arts School and earned a 4th Degree Black Belt.
A devoted man of faith, Cohen was a faithful and active member of Mt. Olive Baptist Church. Throughout the years, he served as a Deacon, Sunday School Superintendent, Vacation Bible School Director, Missionary Society member, Brotherhood member, Usher Board member, Senior Choir and Gospel Choir member, and a former Trustee. His tireless devotion to his church family and community will always be remembered.
Cohen also found fulfillment in civic service as a member of the Optimist Club, sharing his optimism, leadership, and wisdom with the broader community.
He was united in holy matrimony to Kathie Greer, and together they shared 42 beautiful years of love and partnership. To this union were born two sons: Anthony Greer (Tyheshia) of Lancaster, SC, and Andrew Greer (Victoria) of Dallas, TX. Cohen was also a loving grandfather to Austin Cassells of Columbia, SC, and Kaywan Shaw of Hopkins, SC.
Cohen is also survived by his sister, Lula Thompson (Dudley) of Union, SC; his brother, Wardell Greer of Buford, GA; and a host of nieces, nephews, extended family, and dear friends. He was preceded in death by his brother, Jerome Greer.
Cohen’s legacy of kindness, strength, and unwavering faith will live on in the hearts of all who knew and loved him.
