David "Butch" Mills, 74, of Lancaster, SC, peacefully entered eternal rest on Tuesday, March 11, 2025. Butch was born on July 23, 1950, in Kinston, NC, he was the beloved son of the late Elmer "Crip" Mills and Lydia Elizabeth Peay. He was educated in the Lancaster County School District and earned his high school diploma. Butch later embarked on a dedicated career as a truck driver until his well-earned retirement. He was a devoted member of Mt. Carmel AME Zion Church, where his faith remained an essential part of his life.
A true sports enthusiast, Butch loved cheering on his favorite team, the Washington Redskins. He also found great joy in the outdoors, embracing nature and the simple pleasures of life. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother, uncle, and friend. Left to cherish his memory are his devoted wife, Denise Mills of Lancaster, SC; his three daughters, Tara Jackson of Philadelphia, PA, Athena Hughes, and Marilyn McIlwain, both of Lancaster, SC; his two sons, Corey (Dawn) Hughes of Jacksonville, FL, and Kentavius Mills of Lancaster, SC. He is also survived by his loving sister, Regina (Paul) Hagwood of Lancaster, SC, and two brothers, David (Bessie) Mills of Charlotte, NC, and Phillip (Sandra) Mills of Lancaster, SC.
Butch’s legacy continues through his 24 grandchildren and 5 great-grandchildren, who brought him immense joy. He is also survived by his brothers-in-law, Chris, Terry, Leland, Russel, Orlando, Rico, and Rapheal; his sisters-in-law, Michelle (Mike) Duncan and Sherry (Bill) Wilson; his cherished aunt, Flossie (Eugene) Williams; and his great-aunt, Mammie Benson.
Among those who held a special place in his heart were his nephews, Nathadius "Pee Wee" Mills and Michael Ryan Duncan, and his nieces, Ebony Mills and Crystal "Gal" Streater. A dear friend, Charles Lee Hood, and his devoted caregiver, Athena Hughes.
Butch was preceded in death by his parents, his beloved daughter, Keisha Alexander, his sister, Veronica Mills-Ealey, and his brother-in-law, George Ealey.
Butch will be deeply missed but forever remembered for his kind heart, unwavering love for his family, and the laughter and joy he brought to those around him.
