Ms. Doretha “Show Boat” Shannon humbly bowed to God’s will and peacefully entered into eternal rest on Tuesday, February 23, in Ridgeway, South Carolina, surrounded by the love of family.
She was the beloved daughter of the late Lemuel Jason Shannon and Annie Barnes Shannon. Affectionately known as “Show Boat,” Doretha was educated in the Lancaster County School System. She was a dedicated daycare worker who faithfully served and willingly carried out many other duties to help those around her.
Doretha was known for her warm and loving spirit. She was a fantastic cook who enjoyed preparing meals for family and friends. In her spare time, she loved fishing, playing cards, and listening to gospel music. She also had a beautiful singing voice and found great joy in praising the Lord through song.
She truly enjoyed life, especially the moments spent with her family, neighbors, and the love of her heart, her beloved grandson, Jarris. Doretha had a special way of bringing people together and was often described as the glue that held the family together.
Left to cherish her precious memories are her loving children, Dakova Shannon and Greta VadineShannon, both of Lancaster, South Carolina; three grandchildren of Rock Hill, South Carolina; her devoted sisters, Lillie M. Perry of Wilmington, North Carolina, Sarah Davall of Seat Pleasant, Maryland, and Mary Lib Cunningham, her loving sister and caregiver; a special cousin, Rosetta Mobley of Monroe, North Carolina; along with a host of loving nieces, nephews, cousins, and many dear friends.
Doretha was known for sharing words of wisdom with everyone she met. One of her favorite sayings was, “If life passed you by, you were in the wrong lane.”
Her presence, love, and guidance will forever remain in the hearts of those who knew and loved her. She will truly be missed.
