Elizabeth Wright Reid entered into eternal heaven on Tuesday December 12, 2023 at Atrium Health in Pineville, North Carolina. A daughter of the late Frank Wright Sr. and the late Nancy Brown was born August 21, 1947 in Lancaster County, South Carolina.
At an early age Elizabeth accepted Christ and was reared in a Christian home. She was a member of David Stand AME Zion Church and was a faithful and active member .
She was educated in the Lancaster County School District and was a graduate of Hillside High School Class of 1965. She was retired from the Mecklenburg County School District.
Elizabeth was a child of God and profoundly served his will. She enjoyed her church families and it brought her great joy to be among other Christians. Elizabeth Reid began serving as Lancaster District Director of Children in the late 1970s/early 1980s succeeding Mrs. Dot Faulkner who was also a member of David Stand. Throughout the 1980s and 1990s, she was an active Lancaster District Christian Education Director serving as Director of Children, Director of Youth and eventually as District Director. She worked closely with Mrs. Georgiana Knight, the longtime Pee Dee Conference Christian Education Director and eventually succeeded Mrs. Knight when she retired. In the late 1990s, she was appointed the South Atlantic Episcopal District Director of Christian Education and faithfully served until her retirement in 2019. She also served on the Connectional Cabinet of The Assembly of Christian Educators (ACE) as the Southeastern Region Vice-President. Her tenure in Christian Education spanned under three General Secretaries of Christian Education in The AME Zion Church and she served on many committees and boards within the Connectional Christian Education Department over the years. At the time of her retirement in 2019, she had served in appointed offices in Christian Education in The AME Zion Church for more than 40 consecutive years having received appointments from nine Presiding Bishops of the Pee Dee Conference.
Ms. Reid was also known for her representation of The AME Zion Church in ecumenical work as she served for 20+ years as member of Pan-Methodist CommissionWhoever her greatest joy was her family. To know her was to love her and she was loved by many.
Left to cherish loving memories are a son, Fredrick Reid of Lancaster, SC, a daughter, Carolyn Reid of Lancaster, SC, two sisters, Vola Anthony of Maryland, MD, Rosa W. Dunn (Bobby) of Augusta, GA, one grandchildren and a host of other relatives and friends.
She was preceded in death by five brothers, Jimmie Wright, Frank Wright Jr., Otis Wright Jr., Walter Wright, English Wright, a sister, Glady Brace, a grandchild, Kenauana Brown.
