Gilbert Whaley IV

Gilbert Potts Whaley IV was born on July 17, 1955, in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, to the late Gilbert Whaley III and the late Marion Whaley. He peacefully entered into eternal rest on January 6, 2026.

Gilbert was educated in the Philadelphia Public School System and continued his education at Orleans Technical College. On October 18, 1978, he was united in holy matrimony with his soulmate, Gwendolyn Whaley.

Together, they shared a loving marriage and raised three children.

Later in life, Gilbert relocated to South Carolina and made Kershaw his home. There, he lived a life rooted in faith, family, and service. He was a devoted husband to Gwendolyn Whaley and a loving father to Marion Whaley and Mia Whaley. Gilbert was a proud and devoted grandfather to Mekhi, Damari, and Makenna Whaley, who were truly the joy and light of his life.

Gilbert was faithfully employed in building maintenance, where he was known as a hardworking, dependable, and reliable man. In his leisure time, he found great joy in playing the guitar, fishing, watching westerns, spreading the gospel, and spending quality time with his beloved grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his daughter, Tavonia Alford; his brother, Michael Whaley; and his baby sister, Yvette Anderson.

Left to cherish his precious memories are his loving wife, Gwendolyn Whaley, his daughters, Marion Whaley and Mia Whaley, his three grandchildren, Mekhi, Damari, and Makenna Whaley, his sister, D. L. Whaley; four sisters-in-law, Elouise Johnson, Gloria Hall (Danny, Sharon Car (Stanley) Yolanda Alford all of Philadelphia, special niece, Dannette Harris of Tennessee and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.

Gilbert Potts Whaley IV will be remembered as a compassionate, family-oriented, sociable, and God-fearing man whose life touched the hearts of many and whose legacy of love and faith will live on forever.
