Harold Benny Steward

Harold Benny Steward, born on October 20, 1956, in Lancaster, SC, peacefully departed this life on February 9, 2025. He was the beloved son of the late Robert Benny Steward and the late Mattie Bell Coleman.

Harold attended Dunbar High School Class of 1974, where he built friendships and nurtured his love for learning. He later dedicated many years of service as a chef at Furman University, where his passion for cooking brought joy to many. An avid chef, he delighted family and friends with his culinary talents. In his spare time, he enjoyed building model cars and trains, a hobby that reflected his patience and attention to detail. He was also a devoted football fan, never missing a chance to cheer on his beloved Pittsburgh Steelers.

Harold was preceded in death by Lanetta Steward, with whom he shared many cherished years. His memory will forever live on in the hearts of his three daughters, Ayana Steward, Amirah Steward, and Taahirah Steward all of Lancaster, SC. He also leaves behind two sisters, Mattie Steward of Dover, DE and Mary Frances Duren of New Carrollton, MD and two brothers, Michael Steward of Washington, DC and Carl Steward of Wendell, NC. Harold was a proud grandfather to four grandchildren, who will always remember his warmth and wisdom.

He was preceded in death by two sisters, Barbara Jean Steward and Connie Steward; and four brothers, Robert Steward, Jerry Steward, Henry Steward.

Harold's life was one of love, kindness, and dedication to his family and passion for culinary service. Though he is no longer with us, his legacy of warmth and generosity will continue to inspire those who knew and loved him.
