Helen Fletcher Obituary

Mrs. Helen Bell Fletcher, affectionately known as "Queen Esther," entered into eternal rest on October 19, 2025. She was born on October 8, 1937, in Charlotte, North Carolina, to the late Amos Mcllwain and Jessie Dargin.

At an early age, Helen accepted Christ and joined Steele Hill AME Zion Church. After marriage, she became a faithful member of North Corner AME Zion Church, where she served joyfully on the Choir, Usher Board, and Deaconess Board. Her service to the Lord and love for her church family were evident in all that she did.

Helen was united in holy matrimony to the late Ernest Lee

"George" Fletcher, with whom she shared many blessed years.

She was educated in the Lancaster County School District and later found joy in the simple pleasures of life-caring for her beautiful flowers, doing embroidery, spending time with family and friends, cooking, and talking on the phone. Her gentle spirit, warm smile, and love for others left a lasting impression on everyone she met.

She leaves to cherish her loving memory three sons, Dennis Mellwain (Sandra) of Monroe, NC, Lloyd Fletcher (Pam) of Indian Land, SC, and Ernest Fletcher (Valencia) of Waxhaw, NC; three daughters, Marilynn Farmer of Charlotte, NC, LaFrances Cureton of Dallas, NC, and Teresa Taylor (Timity) of Lancaster, SC; three sisters, Carolyn Brown (Edward) of Albany, GA, Mary Joyce Zimmerman of Charlotte, NC, and Deborah Spears of Huntersville, NC; two brothers, Marshall Mellwain (Diane) and Charles Mcllwain, both of Charlotte, NC; twenty-four grandchildren, forty-three great-grandchildren, and nine great-great-grandchildren. She also leaves behind special friends, Ruth Taylor, Mary Witherspoon, and Roberta Cureton, along with a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends.

Helen was preceded in death by her loving husband, Ernest Lee "George" Fletcher; two sisters, Lucille Massey and Dorothy Hilton; and one brother, Johnny Mellwain.

Helen's life was a reflection of faith, love, and service. Her legacy of kindness and devotion will continue to live on in the bears of her tamily and all who knew her.
