Helen Mackey Stevens, 78, of Lancaster, South Carolina, entered into eternal rest in November 5, 2025 She was born on June 11, 1947, in Lancaster, South Carolina, to the late Fred Lee Montgomery and the late Annie Mae Gaddy.
Helen was a devoted member of Camp Creek A.M.E. Zion Church, where she faithfully served on the Usher Board, Deaconess Board, and Stewardess Board, and also taught Youth Sunday School. She was well known in the community as a gospel promoter, both on the radio and at local events, sharing her love for music and ministry.
Helen was united in marriage to the late John David Stevens, Sr., and together they built a loving family grounded in faith and fellowship. She found joy in attending gospel programs, traveling, fishing, playing cards, dancing, and most of all, spending time with her family and friends.
Helen leaves to cherish her memory: three sons, John D. Gaddy, Jr. (Carlisa), Phillip Alan Stevens, and George Washington (Tina), all of Lancaster, SC; one daughter, Brenda G. Whitlock of Lancaster, SC; two sisters, Diane Steward and Patricia Jones (Levi) all of Lancaster, SC; seventeen grandchildren, fifty-one great-grandchildren, and three great-great-grandchildren, special friend, Minnie Miller of Lancaster, SC.
She will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved her, but her legacy of faith, joy, and family devotion will live on in the hearts of many.
