James Mitchell Barnette, humbly bowed to God’s will and entered into eternal rest on Thursday May 29, 2025 at MUSC in Lancaster South Carolina. A son of James McGill and the late Alther Mae Ross Barnette was born December 24, 1961 in Lancaster County, South Carolina.
James accepted Christ at an early age and was a member of White Oak AME Zion Church.
James was educated in the Lancaster County School District and attended Indian Land High School and graduated from the U.S. Truck Driving School in Pensacola, Florida. James was employed as a truck driver and retired after many years of dedicated service.
James embraced life and enjoyed cooking on the grill, attending car shows, drag racing, riding motorcycles, he was a founder and dedicated member of the Heavenly Hills Motorcycle Club. He also enjoyed Horse Power TV, listening to music and watching videos. His greatest joy was laughing with his family and friends. He was also an avid fan of the Dallas Cowboys and considered himself the #1 fan.
Those left to cherish fond memories are his wife, Michelle Thompson- Barnette of Lancaster, SC, two sons, LaCarlosCureton of Lancaster. SC, JaMarius Thompson (Ciera) of York, SC, three brothers, Olin Barnette (Anna Faye) of Rock Hill, SC, Walter Taylor (Phyllis) of Charlotte, NC, Eric Breeden (Katherine) of Virginia Beach, VA, three sisters, Betty Coffey of Van Wyck, SC, Valerie Barnette and Valmer Ingram both of Lancaster, SC, sister/cousin, Zandra Morris (William) of Salisbury, NC, three sisters-in-law, Laverne Thompson, Jacquelyn Hinson Barnette, Darlene Barnette all of Lancaster, SC, three aunts, Diane McCray of Charlotte, NC, Mattie Ross of Richmond, VA, Sue Hayden of Lancaster, SC, two uncles Robert H. Ross (Alberta) of Charlotte, NC, John Ross (Idell) of Heath Springs, SC, Special friends and family, Larry Southern, Marion Horton (Slim), Stanley Barber, Gonze Twitty (Fat Boy), John Grant Jr., Melvin White (Buck), Wayne Winfield, Mitchell Allen, Tina Meredith (Big Sis) and host of nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by three brothers, James Richard Barnette, Otis James Barnette and Willie Elvis Barnette.
