James Alexander Champion, affectionately known as “Cool Eddie,” peacefully departed this life on June 25, 2025. He was born on August 31, 1951, in Concord, NC, to the late Mary Mildred Coleman and the late James Alexander Champion, Sr.
James was educated in the Lancaster County School District and became a talented and respected brick mason. His skilled hands built strong structures and even stronger bonds within his community.
He was united in marriage to Canasa Rabb Champion, and together they created a loving and joyful home. Cool Eddie was known for his love of fishing, his passion for the Carolina Panthers — he proudly claimed to be their biggest fan — and his knack for “talking junk” and keeping those around him laughing. He brought life and laughter wherever he went.
Left to cherish his memory are his devoted wife, Canasa Rabb Champion; two daughters, Margaret A. Holder (Sheldon) and Cindy T. Champion, both of Lancaster, SC; two sons, James A. Champion, Jr. (Rachael) and Antonio E. Champion, both of Lancaster, SC; a sister, Gloria Wylie of Rock Hill, SC; a brother, Donald H. Champion (Geneva) of Mansfield, TX; eight grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; and special friends, Denise Nesbit, Mike and Annette Crawford.
He was preceded in death by a sister, Cindy Gill, and two brothers, Tommy Champion and Clinton Champion.
Cool Eddie’s warmth, quick wit, and unwavering love will remain forever in the hearts of his family and friends. His legacy lives on in the laughter he inspired and the memories he created.
May he rest in eternal peace.
