OBITUARY
James “Terry” Harris
James Terry Harris bowed to God’s will and entered eternal rest Friday, May 27,
2022, at Atrium South-Pineville in Charlotte, North Carolina. An only son of the
late Caldwell Harris and Mamie Lee Harris Adkins was born February 19, 1949 in
Lancaster, South Carolina. Terry was treasured in the eyes of his grandmother,
Estelle McWhirter, affectionately known to him as “Mama”
Terry grew as a member of Bethel Presbyterian Church of Waxhaw, NC and later
attended Mt. Tabor AME Zion Church in Lancaster, SC. He especially learned to
fear and honor God sitting at the feet and the table of his beloved “Mama”.
He was educated in the Lancaster County School District and graduated from Barr
Street High School. After high school, Terry worked at Springs Mill and later
learned the skills of brick laying and masonry working with Leroy Watts
Construction Company and others.
Terry embraced life and enjoyed watching football. Especially his favorite team,
the Washington Redskins. He liked listening to gospel music and going to
concerts, cutting grass around the neighborhood and raising his chickens. His
greatest passion was being with family and friends.
He leaves to cherish his memory four loving sisters; Venettia R. Hargrove, Barbara
A. Myers, Deborah T. Harris and Shirley R. Gray and a host of nieces, nephews,
aunts, cousins, and other relatives and friends. Terry carries with him to glory the
love and encouragement he received from his family and the many friends and
neighbors in Lancaster that he embraced as family. God knows each one. We
especially acknowledge the memory of Terry’s good friend, Joe. And give special
tanks to Melanie Carter, his neighbor known even by his doctors. Terry called her
Mel.
