The Beautiful Life and Enduring Legacy of
Jerrilynn “Jet” Mingo
Born on April 14, 1955, Jerrilynn was the cherished daughter of the late Jerry Mingo and the late Linda Funderburk Mingo. As the second oldest of six children, she naturally embraced the role of protector, encourager, and example—qualities that remained with her throughout her life.
Affectionately known as “Jet” because of her beautiful, silky black hair, she was the epitome of sweetness and grace. Jet possessed a gentle spirit and a kind heart that made everyone feel valued and loved. She was intelligent and proud to have been educated in the Lancaster County School District, graduating from Lancaster High School, where she was crowned Homecoming Queen in 1972. Known for her impeccable fashion sense and elegant style, she carried herself with confidence and dignity. Rarely seen without her signature pearls, Jet shined with a quiet brilliance—like glitter, she lingered, leaving behind the fragrance of a red rose, her favorite flower.
Her commitment to learning led her to further her education at York Technical College in Rock Hill, South Carolina. Professionally, Jet exemplified humility, trustworthiness, patience, and kindness. She retired as a dental assistant after an extraordinary 50 years of dedicated service. Her gentle touch and warm smile brought comfort to countless patients and colleagues alike.
Above all, Jet was a spirit-filled, faithful servant of God. A lifetime member of New Hope Missionary Baptist Church, she faithfully served in numerous capacities, including usher, Sunday School teacher, President of the Nurses Guild, and Trustee. She was a true prayer warrior—God-fearing and steadfast—always willing to intercede and extend a helping hand. Serving the Lord was not just something she did; it was who she was. Her favorite saying was, “To God be the Glory,” words she spoke often and lived by daily. One of her favorite songs, “God Will Deliver on Time,” was a reflection of her unwavering faith and trust in God’s promises.
Jet found joy in life’s simple pleasures. She loved traveling, with Myrtle Beach being her favorite vacation destination. She delighted in shopping excursions and treasured moments spent with family and friends—her greatest splurge of all. She had a well-known sweet tooth and especially enjoyed German chocolate cake, hot fudge sundaes, birthday cake, Snickers, and Hershey Kisses.
A natural-born leader and peacemaker, Jet was thoughtful, caring, funny, and full of joy. She uplifted and motivated everyone around her, especially her beloved family. She held a special place in her heart for her nieces and nephews, loving them dearly and pouring wisdom, encouragement, and unconditional love into each of their lives. Her countless heartfelt voicemails—filled with inspiration and affection—will remain priceless treasures to those who received them.
She was preceded in death by her loving parents, Jerry and Linda Mingo, and her nephew, Trey Mingo.
Left to cherish her precious memories are her devoted siblings: Mary Lois Mingo (Jon Griffin) of Charlotte, North Carolina; Sally Mingo Tucker, Ricky Louis Mingo, Esther LeeVaughn Mingo Kennedy (Brice), and Darrell Bernard Mingo (Cindy), all of Lancaster, South Carolina.
Her love also lives on through her nieces and nephews: Rica Jones, Jeremiah Tucker (April), Willie Barnes, Yanique Fontenot (Shane), Quinten Tucker, Dr. Lauren Tucker, Petty Officer 1st Class Demarcus Tucker Jr., and Ryan Kennedy (Tiffany); special great-nephew Khilen Woodley; great-niece and nephew Autumn Barr and Ethan Barr; and her devoted best friend, Lorraine Perry of Lancaster, South Carolina.
Jerrilynn “Jet” Mingo was truly a virtuous woman—an inspiration, a confidante, a leader, and a woman of unwavering faith. Though she will be deeply and greatly missed, her legacy of grace, service, and devotion will continue to bloom in the hearts of all who knew her.
“To God be the Glory.”
