Jessie Mae Gaither peacefully transitioned from this life on December 18, 2025. She was born in Lancaster, South Carolina, to the late Willie James Haggins and the late Rozina Gaither.
Jessie Mae was a lovely lady to be around—warm, gentle, and kind-hearted. Born of Christian faith, she carried her beliefs with quiet strength and lived a life rooted in love, compassion, and service to others. She was educated in the Lancaster County School District and was a proud graduate of Hillside High School.
Jessie Mae dedicated many years of faithful service as a Home Healthcare Nurse with Lancaster Health and Rehabilitation before retiring. Her caring spirit and commitment to helping others left a lasting impact on those she served.
She had a deep appreciation for nature and found peace simply sitting outside, enjoying the beauty around her. Fishing was her favorite hobby, but above all, Jessie Mae treasured spending time with her family and friends. Those moments of togetherness brought her the greatest joy.
Jessie Mae leaves to cherish her loving memory a son, Johnny L. Gaither of Heath Springs, SC; special son, Joe Carter of Lancaster, SC, seven brothers, Otis Gaither (Diedra) of Heath Springs, SC, Clarence Gaither (Karen) of Rock Hill, SC, Moses Gaither (Shawn) of Heath Springs, SC, Carl Haggins (Mae Mae) of Great Falls, SC, James Haggins (Debra) of Great Falls, SC, Earl Haggins (Uvonne) of Murfreesboro, TN, and Wayne Haggins of Lancaster, SC; six sisters, Earline Smith of Lincolnton, NC, Wanda Wright of Heath Springs, SC, Carolyn Coleman of Lancaster, SC, Joyce Haggins of Lancaster, SC, Sandra Haggins-Steed (Joseph) of Pageland, SC, and Andrea Cebanu (Vitalii) of Lancaster, SC.
She is also lovingly remembered by her special son, Joe Carter; special cousin, JoAnn Gaither; and special nephews, Omar Gaither, John-John, Jayden, Jordan, Jaxson, and Jase, along with a host of other nieces, nephews and other relatives and friends.
In addition to her parents, Jessie Mae was preceded in death by her brother, Ray Charles Gaither.
Jessie Mae Gaither will be deeply missed and forever remembered by all who knew and loved her.
