Mr. Leonard Pate, Jr. quietly entered into eternal rest on Friday, November 14, 2025, at his home in Sumter, South Carolina. He was born on October 3, 1943, in Lancaster, South Carolina, to the late Leonard Pate, Sr. and Sarah Thompson Pate Threatt.
He was preceded in death by two sisters, Margaret Pate Miller and Goldie Pate Harris, and one son, Avis Miller.
Leonard gave his life to Christ at an early age and was a devoted member of Unity Baptist Church. He received his education in the Lancaster County School District and graduated from Hillside High School. He later retired after many years of dedicated employment.
Leonard was known for his gentle spirit and his passion for the arts. He enjoyed expressing himself through creative work and found great peace in fishing during his spare time.
He leaves to cherish his fond memories the mother of his children, Lucile Elaine Pate; five children: Kimberly Pate of Dallas, NC, Dexter Pate of Bethune, SC, Shien Pate (Stella) of Ruskin, FL, Deon Pate (Melinda) of Sumter, SC, and Toja Woods (Noel) of Bethune, SC; along with a host of grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, relatives, and friends.
Leonard will be remembered for his kindness, his creativity, and the quiet strength that touched the lives of all who knew him.
