On Friday, June 11, 2021, Lois Dana Bradley Coleman, loving wife, mother, grandmother and aunt passed away at the age of 80 with her family by her side.
Lois was born on July 3, 1940 in Greenville, South Carolina to Lewis Bradley and Alline. She attended Sterling High school where she was valedictorian of her class. She received her BA from South Carolina State University in Home Economics, a MS degree from Tuskegee University in Foods & Nutrition and continued her doctoral studies in Foods & Biochemistry at Pennsylvania State University. She served as Director of Nutrition for the Jefferson County, KY Public Health Department and Director of the Women, Infants and Children (WIC) program for many years.
Lois met the love of her life, James W. Coleman at Tuskegee University when they were both graduate students in 1962. They married in 1964. Together they reared one son, Bradley Calhoun Coleman.
Lois had a passion for gardening, gourmet cooking, reading, crossword puzzles and improving the health of others. She also had an astute knowledge of financial markets and was an avid investor. She was a member of the Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc.
Lois was preceded in death by her father, mother, five sisters and one brother. She is survived by her husband, Dr. James W. Coleman, son, Bradley (Frederica), loving grandchildren, Ellis and Grace, three sisters-in-laws and a host of nieces and nephews.
A private service will be held in her honor.
