Lois Mungo Obituary

Who can find a virtuous woman? For her price is above rubies. Proverbs 31:10 

​Lois Carol Mungo was born on October 25, 1943,in Lancaster, S.C. to loving parents who were the lateJohn Lewis McKinney and Maebell Mcllwain Myers. At the age of nine years old Lois was blessed to have the late Murkerson and Geneva Smith as bonus parents. At that time, she began her Christian journeyat Mt. Zion A. M. E. Zion Church where she played the piano for the children’s choir and Sunday School. Lois attended Lancaster County Schools, graduated fromBarr Street High School in the Class of 1961 and continued her education by attending Livingstone College in Salisbury, North Carolina. She then worked as a paraprofessional at Elizabeth Heights Elementary, Great Falls Elementary, and Fort Lawn Elementary. Later, Lois began working as a customer service representative with Skyline LTD known as Tic Tac in Heath Springs, South Carolina and then retired fromLancaster County DHEC as an Outreach Specialist.She also served her community by volunteering at the Elliot White Springs Memorial Hospital at the front desk.

​In June 1970, God joined together Jeffery and Lois Mungo in holy matrimony. They were blessed with two beautiful daughters: Kimberly and Kia. Her love for music along with her strong Christian faith led her to become a member and the organist for over thirty years at David Stand A. M. E. Zion Church. She worked with the Golden Agers Ministry through the Christian Education Department, Vacation Bible School, member of the Lay Council, a Life Member of the Women’s Home and Oversea Missionary Society, and an avid Tuesday night Sunday School participant.She was also a member of the Order of the Eastern Star.

Lois was proceeded in death by two sisters: Yvonne Underhill and Annette Chandler, one brother: Timonthy Myers.

 

Her children arise up, and call her blessed: her husband also, and he praiseth her. Proverbs 31:28

​This virtuous woman will be loved and cherished forever by her loving husband, Jeffery Mungo; two caring daughters, Kimberly Mungo of Augusta, Georgia; Kia Mungo Gary (Griffin) of Fort Mill, South Carolina; and a precious grandson, Logan Gary; three sisters, Debra Bennett of LaPlata, Maryland, Veronica Mcllwain of Lancaster, South Carolina, Mae Gunishawof Hampton, Virginia, a host of nieces, nephews, loving family members and devoted friends who will dearly miss her earthly presence. She had a specialplace in her heart for Bridget Harris, Ada Margaret Belk, Frances Lindsay, the DHEC SISTAHS, Evan Austin, and Cornelia Tucker who we know will miss her dearly.

​Lois was affectionately known as Lula Mae, Lo Lo, Lil Big Sister, Granny and Hazel and had a love for fish and fatback. She lived her life to the fullest and was a true inspiration to all who knew her. She never missed an opportunity to give to others, which gave hermuch joy. Lois was a woman of strong faith whobelieved that all things were possible to those who believed and trust in God.

Favor is deceitful, and beauty is vain; but a woman that feareth the Lord, she shall be praised. Proverbs 31:30
