Lola Laney

Mrs. Lola Terry Laney, 82 of Charlotte, NC, entered eternal rest on Tuesday July 9, 2024, at Brighton Gardens, Charlotte, NC. 

Mrs. Laney was born in Mecklenburg County, VA on February 28, 1942, to the late Marion M. Terry and Eliza Bell Terry. She graduated from West End High School in Skipwith, VA. She was joined in holy matrimony on May 18, 1961, to the late Assistant Police Chief Ellison Laney Jr. 

Mrs. Laney furthered her education becoming a Licensed Practical Nurse. She retired from her nursing career of 30 years at Mercy Hospital of Charlotte, NC. She was a faithful member of New Zion Missionary Baptist Church in Lancaster, SC. She was a believer. One of her quotes “God answers prayers.” Mrs. Laney loved her family dearly and was a beautiful person BOTH inside and outside.

In addition to her parents, she was proceeded in death by her husband Assistant Police Chief Ellison Laney Jr., brother Chester M. Terry, brother-in-law’s David Mayhue Laney and Rev. Archie Laney, sister-in-law’s Ruth Laney Moorehead and Janice Carolyn Laney.

She leaves to cherish her memories son Harlan Laney and grandson Tylik Laney of the home, four other grandchildren Domnique, Zaonna, Asia, Saari of Charlotte, NC. One great granddaughter Alaya. Five siblings Marion Terry Jr (Barbara), Vera T. Garner, Evonnie T. Gbadebo, Fred M. Terry, Torres V. Terry (Dorita), Two brother-in-law’s James Leroy Speede and Charles Laney Sr. (Bonnie), 7 sister-in-law’s, Uncles Stephen Terry and Nathanel Terry (Roberta) and Aunt Marie Venable (Sidney), 3 nephews, and 10 nieces (Special nieces Lisa McClure and Adepeju G. Champion). Special thanks to true friends Lula Blakeney for the laughter, Angela Austin, and Helen Simpson.

Funeral Services for Mrs. Lola Terry Laney will be conducted at New Zion Missionary Baptist Church in Lancaster, SC on July 14, 2024, at 2 pm with Rev. Ricky Haile officiating. Public viewing for family and friends will be held 1 hour before the service.
