Marian Frances Smith Baxter-Evans, humbly bowed to God’s will and peacefully entered into eternal rest on Tuesday, October 1, 2024 at MUSC in Lancaster, SC. A daughter of the late Isiah Smith and the late Margaret Ervin-Smith was born June 11, 1938 in Rock Hill, South Carolina. She was a proud graduate of Emmett Scott High School and furthered her education at York Technical College, where she nurtured her passion for learning. She was a devoted special education worker for the York-Chester District and was employed as a skilled Speech Therapist for many years.
Marian was married to the late Rev. J.F. Baxter and later to Rev. Willie H. Evans for 25 years. She was a dedicated member of Trinity Baptist Church in her childhood andlater joined Mt. Zion AME Zion Church in Landsford, where she served her community and fostered a spirit of unity and fellowship. She was the Musician of Mt. Zion, and a Class Leader founder of the Hostess Club, a memberof the minister wives and spouses, special education worker for York-Chester District and played an active role in the Booster Club of Liberty Hill AMEZ. Her commitment to her church and community exemplified her caring nature and desire to uplift those around her.
A passionate cook and skilled seamstress, Marian found joy in creating and sharing with others. She delighted in hosting events, bringing friends and family together to celebrate life’s special moments. Her love for puzzles and shopping added to her vibrant spirit, and she found comfort in the stories of western movies.
Left to cherish loving memories are a son, Rev. M.N. Baxter (Jackie) of Rock Hill, a granddaughter , Kara “Jonelle” Baxter, a great granddauther, Johntavia Baxter both of Fort Mill, SC, a brother, Isiah Smith (Annie) of Seattle, WS, bonus children, Barbara Evans, Ronald Lee Evans, Wanda Evans, Calvin Evans, Tomeka Evans, special friend, Mrs. Donna Long, and a host of cousins and other relatives and friends.
She was preceded in death by a daughter, Sheila O. Baxter, a son John Fred (Chub) Baxter Jr. two great greatgrandchildren, Harley and Enchantress.
