Marlene Fletcher Simpson, a vibrant and accomplished woman, passed away peacefully on Friday, November 29, 2024, leaving behind a legacy of love, faith, and dedication to her family, friends, and community. Born on February 2, 1940 in Lancaster, SC, to the late Willie Truesdale and the late Sadic Mobley Truesdale. Marlene lived a life full of passion, creativity, and service.
Marlene was raised in a Christian environment and accepted Christ at an early age. She was a dedicated member of Pleasant Grove Missionary Baptist Church. She was the founder of the Seniors on the Go Ministries, member of the United Gospel Singers and a proud Eastern Star member. Marlene's leadership and compassion provided a sense of community and joy to countless lives. She was a pillar of strength and positivity, inspiring everyone around her.
She was united in holy matrimony to Benjamin "Benny* Simpson for many years who preceded her in death.
Marlene was a proud graduate of Barr Street High School and later pursued her love of beauty and fashion at Dudley Cosmetology School, where she earned her degree. Her talents and skills shone brightly in all she did.
Marlene enjoyed an array of hobbies and talents, which brought joy to her life and others. She had a love for bowling, walking, traveling, and shopping. A gifted artist, she expressed her creativity through crocheting and playing the organ, while her culinary skills delighted her family and friends. Marlene's love for gospel music and singing uplifted many hearts, and her game nights filled with pitty pat brought laughter and fellowship.
Marlene is survived by two daughters, Dimetrius F. Robertson (Carnell) of Columbia, SC, Linda Bailey (godson Bruce) of Lancaster, SC, two sons, Ernest Fletcher and Donald Fletcher both of Columbia, SC, a sister, Evangelist Josephine McGriff" of Lancaster, SC, honorary siblings, Shirley Truesdale, Molly Martin, Wilbert Cunningham, Deacon Ricky Truesdale (Blaine), seven grandchildren, Thomisa La'Shai Brown, Alcinio Price, Everette Fletcher, Tianna Fletcher, Christi Fletcher, Desai D. Fletcher, Soliel C. Fletcher, seven great grandchildren, Blaike A. Fisher, Blaire C. Fisher, Khaliah Chavis, Jae Fletcher, Eli Fletcher, Ava Hetcher, Avery Beux Sumter Jr., special friend, Odessa Funderburk, caregivers, Dr. James Pierce and staff Bree Hayes, Rosetta Vinson, Yvonne Mellwain, Juliette Messinger, Lorraine Perry along with a host of extended family and friends who will forever cherish her memory.
She was preceded in death by four sisters, Margaree Mackey, Mattic Mae Truesdale, Eliza Dance, Shirley Truesdale, six brothers, Milton Truesdale, Willic Truesdale, King Truesdale, Jay Ross Truesdale, Jerry Truesdale and Benjamin Truesdale.
Marlene's bright spirit and unwavering faith will remain a source of inspiration to all who knew her. ay she rest in the arms of eternal peace.
