Mary Booker

Mary Funderburk Booker, 88, peacefully entered into eternal rest after a life filled with love, faith, and service. She was born on February 7, 1937, in Chesterfield County, South Carolina, to the late Charles Funderburk and the late Sarah Threatt.

Mary was educated in the Chesterfield County School System and was a proud graduate of Hillside High School. She later attended Temple University, where she earned a degree in Early Childhood Development—reflecting her lifelong passion for nurturing and guiding young minds.

A woman of deep faith and gentle spirit, Mary lived a Christlike life devoted to service. She was a dedicated member of her church, where she joyfully sang in the choir and faithfully served in the kitchen ministry. Her kindness, humility, and love for others touched everyone she met.

Mary enjoyed spending time with her family and friends, and she had a special gift for caring for children. She loved to bake, cook, and sing—filling every gathering with warmth, laughter, and joy. She will be remembered for her generous heart, her unwavering faith, and her beautiful voice that lifted the spirits of all who heard her.

She leaves to cherish her fond and loving memories: one son, Mark Avery Wilson of Philadelphia, PA; one daughter, Tracey Funderburk (Gerald) of Philadelphia, PA; two sisters, Rosa L. White of Philadelphia, PA, and Polly Mungo (Thomas) of Lancaster, SC; three brothers, Willie White, Ricky White (Sharonita), and John White, all of Lancaster, SC; seven grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives, and friends.

She was preceded in death by one daughter, Jacqueline St. Cyr Wilson; three sisters, Minnie Baskins, Renee White, and Mary Harris; and four brothers, James Curtis White, Bobby White, Walter James White, and J.B. “Buck” White.

Her life was a testament to love, faith, and family—and her legacy will live on in the hearts of all who knew her.
