Mildred Laney Goodson

Mildred Goodson, age 74, entered into eternal rest on May 14, 2025. She was born on December 7, 1950, in Lancaster, South Carolina, to the late Jesse Belle Laney and the late Mildred Beatrice Baker.

Mildred was educated in the Lancaster County Public School System and moved to Paterson, NJ as a teenager where she resided in her adult life.  She went on to build a career with Nabisco for thirty years, where she worked faithfully until her retirement and moved back to South Carolina to be with family. She was a woman of quiet strength, known for her gentle spirit, radiant smile, and the love she showed to her family and friends.

A devoted member of New Zion Baptist Church, Mildred served as a faithful usher and took pride in her role, greeting each person with warmth and grace. Her faith and dedication to the church were central to her life.

Mildred enjoyed the simple pleasures of life—she loved working in her yard, traveling, and keeping herself stylish with frequent trips to the salon. Whether it was a new hairstyle or freshly done nails, Mildred took pride in presenting herself with grace and confidence.

She leaves behind two beloved sons, Eddie Goodson of Rock Hill, SC, and Jamal Goodson of Charlotte, NC; three sisters, Margie Ray Allen of Fort Washington, MD, Valerie Smith of Lancaster, SC, and Vickie Wilkins (Roosevelt) of Locust Grove, VA; four brothers, Jesse Bell Laney (Evelyn) of Philadelphia, PA, George Harold Laney, Larion Gene Laney (Teresa), and Scott Neal Laney (Bridget), all of Lancaster, SC; and one cherished grandson, Jayden Goodson.

Mildred will also be remembered fondly by a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives, and dear friends whose lives she touched with love, kindness, and laughter.

She was preceded in death by three sisters, Lucy M. Hamilton, Marion J. McNeal, Luberta Laney, three brothers, Bill Roy Laney, Sederiah Laney, Joe Wright.

Her memory will live on in the hearts of those who knew and loved her.
