Nettie Ruth Mackey, 96, of Lancaster, SC, passed away peacefully on June 12, 2025. Born July 15, 1929, in Lancaster, SC she was the beloved daughter of the late Wakeford Scott and the late Edna Faile.
Of Baptist faith, Nettie lived a life of love, generosity, and quiet strength. She had a deep passion for gardening, known by many for her “green thumb” and beautiful flowers that brightened the lives of all who saw them. She found joy in simple pleasures—fishing on calm days, trying her luck with the lottery, and her favorite color, red, which matched her vibrant spirit.
Nettie was especially known for her giving heart. She lovingly crafted quilts for children in need, a legacy of comfort and care that touched many lives over the years. Her handiwork and kindness will be cherished and remembered always. She was a devoted mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother.
She is survived by her three daughters: Fredia “Jean” Crenshaw, Sue Mackey Reynolds (Tim), and Angel McManus, all of Lancaster, SC. She leaves behind six grandchildren: Joey Knight, Courtney Batson, Christopher Baker, Samantha Mackey, Billy Mackey Jr., and Stacey Altman; and eight great-grandchildren who brought immense joy to her life. In addition to her parents, Nettie was preceded in death by her son, Billy Floyd Mackey; daughter, Darnell Mackey; two sisters, Bernice Hill and Josie “Aunt Tootsie” Trimnal; and three brothers, Dewey Scott, Roland Scott, and Clyde Scott. Nettie’s life was a blessing, her memory a treasure. She was loved beyond words and will be missed beyond measure.
