Phillip Ricardo “Phil” Mackey, affectionately known as Phil, passed away on March 6, 2026.
Phil was born on May 31, 1955, to the late Birda Mackey Gaddy. He was educated in the Lancaster County School District and was a proud member of the Lancaster High School Class of 1973. At an early age, Phil developed a strong work ethic and a love for working with his hands.
Phil was a faithful member of Deliverance Word of Faith. He was known for his many talents and his generous spirit. A gifted chef, Phil could prepare amazing meals that family and friends always enjoyed. He also had a remarkable ability to fix almost anything and worked in maintenance for many years. In his spare time, Phil enjoyed drawing and painting, expressing his creativity through art.
Above all, Phil was a caregiver by nature. He loved his family deeply and was always willing to lend a helping hand or offer support to those around him.
He leaves to cherish his memory: his son, Quanterious D. Mackey of Spartanburg, South Carolina; three brothers, Menzell Mackey (Marlene) of Lancaster, South Carolina, Mendel Mackey (Sharon) of Charlotte, North Carolina, and Ernest Mackey (Karen) of Fayetteville, North Carolina; one sister, Gloria Gordon of Boiling Springs, South Carolina; three grandchildren; a special niece, Donna Truesdale; and a special friend and devoted caregiver, Louvie Hubbard, along with a host of other relatives and friends who will miss him dearly.
Phil’s life was a testament to kindness, creativity, and devotion to family, and his memory will live on in the hearts of all who knew and loved him.
