Phillip M. Moore was born August 14, 1945, in Kershaw, South Carolina to the late Isaac and Fannie Mae Moore. He departed this life on July 1, 2024, at the age of 78 years old.
When Philip was 6 years old, Isaac and Fannie left Kershaw and moved to Syracuse, New York where Phillip completed his early childhood, middle school, and high school education. He graduated from Central Tech Vocational High School and was in the welding program. That program prepared him for the automotive repair industry where he worked at the family business, Moore’s Body Shop. In 1965, Phillip entered the United States Air Force and was stationed at Walker Air Force Base in Roswell, New Mexico for a year and a half. He was then reassigned to Wiesbaden Air Base in Wiesbaden, Germany where he served two and a half years, continuing his education in Business Administration, before being honorably discharged at the rank of Sargeant E-4. In 1969, Phillip returned to Syracuse, entered Onondaga Community College, where he took psychology and accounting courses, and worked at the family business for the next 32 years. Phillip also worked for New York Life Insurance, as a consultant for New York State in the Office for the Aging, and for Going Places where he transported disabled children to and from school.
Phillip was a longtime member of Bethany Baptist Church for more than 70 years where he served as a musician, one of the founders of the Male Chorus, and in many other capacities. When Phillip could no longer physically attend church services, one of the Deacons at Bethany, Lawrence Kellam, showed love and compassion by constantly praying with him and ensuring he received communion at home.
Phillip met Arcieola Baxter in 1986. They wed in 1988 and would have celebrated 36 years of marriage on August 13, 2024. Arcieola was a devoted, dedicated, committed wife, and cared for Phillip through health and sickness, ensuring that he was comfortable and always had what he needed. Phillip’s son, Tavon, and brother in love, Marvin Pitts, also spent countless time ensuring he made it to his appointments and caring for him at home.
Phillip was preceded in death by his parents, Isaac, and Fannie Mae Moore, one (1) brother Ralph Moore, and one (1) son, Phillip M. Moore Jr., who died in infancy. He leaves to mourn his passing, cherish his memory, and celebrate his graduation his wife, Arcieola Baxter Moore of Syracuse, NY; three (3) brothers: William Cauthen (Mary) of Douglasville, GA, Richard Harris of Riverdale, GA, and Horace Moore (Donna) of Augusta, GA; his children: Yolanda Joachim (Josue) of Acworth, GA; Terence Baxter of Port Richey, FL, and Tavon Moore of Syracuse, NY; four (4) grandsons: Julien, Tylique, Tymir, and Ashton; one (1) stepdaughter, Michelle Keebler (Sylvester) of Slidell, LA; three (3) aunts: Frances Stewart of Winston Salem, NC, Liza Elder of Virginia Beach, VA and Romenia Moore, of Kershaw, SC; and a host of loving in-laws, nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
