On February 21, 2025, Piltia “Billy” Faulkner, Jr. God opened the gates of heaven and invited him in.
Piltia “Billy” Faulkner, Jr. began a new chapter. He was a beloved figure in both his family and community, often found sitting in his truck at the North Corner Store. Known for his stern demeanor and upfront nature, Billy's presence was felt and respected by all who knew him. His faith in God shaped his life, guiding him through both challenges and triumphs.
Billy was born on September 11, 1941, in Lancaster, South Carolina, to the late Pilta Lee Faulkner, Sr. and Helen Crockett Faulkner. He was educated in Lancaster County Schools, graduating from Barr Street High School. Billy worked several years at Ashe Brick Company and later retired from Grace Spring Bleacher, where his dedication and work ethic were deeply appreciated.
As a child, Billy attended David Stand A.M.E. Zion Church, where he developed a deep-rooted faith that would remain with him throughout his life. His love for God and community echoed in the kindness he showed to others, even while maintaining his tough exterior.
Billy was a man of strong convictions, embraced with love from his family and community. He cherished Gospel Quartet music, especially the inspiring sounds of Lee Williams and the Spiritual QCs. An big fan of the Dallas Cowboys, he would often share his passion for the game with friends and family, creating cherished memories along the way.
Billy leaves behind a loving family, including his daughter, Frances Maxine Sanders (Charlotte, NC); two sons, Billy Maurice Faulkner (Lancaster, SC) and Christopher Dale Faulkner (Lancaster, SC); one sister, Kathlean Faulkner (Lancaster, SC); and his grandchildren: Shannon Kathleen Faulkner (Humble, TX), Sydney Rae (Conner) Faulkner Lazas (Humble, TX), Maurice Michael Faulkner (Tampa, FL), Michelle Hoezel (Chalmette, LA), Kamilah Grace Compton Faulkner (Indian Land, SC), Raven Selene Faulkner (Indian Land, SC), Marcricus Sanders (Latosha) (Monroe, NC), Jasmine Sanders (Durham, NC) Damien Sanders (Charlotte, NC), and Chandler Sanders (Charlotte, NC); two great grandchildren Lightner Faulkner Lazas and Morris Sanders, Jr. (Monroe, NC)
He also leaves behind a special friend, Eva Mae Walton, and good friends: Sammie Lathan, Gregory “Paul” Hill, Ray Witherspoon, Ken Monroe, Clarance Witherspoon, Jerome Cureton, Diana Knierieman, JoAnn Massey, Willie B. Hood-Nesbit, Carthlean Mcilwain and special relationships with the Ford and Duncan Families.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Pilta Lee Faulkner, Sr. and Helen Faulkner; sisters Mary Esther Faulkner Patterson and Dorthy Viola Hood; one brother, Willie Faulkner; and his grandmother, Lightener Faulkner, one daughter Ruth Cassandra Faulkner and a good friend Steve Beckham.
Billy will be deeply missed by all who had the privilege to know him. His legacy of love, strength, and unwavering faith will live on in the hearts of his family and friends.
