Rayford “Sonny” Harris

Rayford “Sonny” Harris has peacefully entered into eternal rest on Tuesday December 17, 2024, at Carolina Continue Care in Pineville, NC.  A son of the late Jack and Connie Harris was born April 9, 1946, in Lancaster, SC.  

Rayford accepted Christ at an early age and was a member of New Hope Baptist Church.  He served on the brotherhood and before his health began to fail, he was a member of the Men’s Choir.  

Rayford was educated in Lancaster County School District.  He was employed with Gerdau American Steel where he retired.  Rayford enjoyed the company of the Wheels of Peace (WOP) Motorcycle Club for 50 years as a faithful member.  He enjoyed riding and restoring older cars and motorcycles.

He was united in holy matrimony to Sarah Lois Hammond Harris for 55 years on November 22 2024. 

Left to cherish loving memories, his wife Sarah Harris of Heath Springs, SC, One daughter Mary Harris of Lancaster, SC, four sons, Derik (Lisa) Harris, Mint Hill, NC, Jason Harris, Lancaster, SC and Donell (Christina) Coleman, Oceanside, CA, Jamal Carthcart, Rosamond,CA.  Three sisters, Katherine (Tim) Seegars, Sarah Harris, Darlene (Ricky) Haile, and six brothers, Oscar (Linda S) Harris, Ted Harris, Eugene (Michelle) Harris, Herman (Linda C) Harris, Lynn (Katie) Harris, Leo (Rhondica) Harris.  Ten grandchildren, Briana, Neleh, Qayden, Jalayiah, Simone, Jazmine, Travin, Jason Jr., Lesley and Jaleel, host of nieces and nephews whom he adored spending time with and good friend Andrew Harris.

He was preceded in death by one sister, Betty and five brothers, Jack, Willie, Henry, Leon and Fred.

God has recalled his own.  But our hearts in every way still say, thou will be done.
