Rev. Archie Laney Obituary

Minister Archie O. Laney was born to Ellison, Sr., and Bleaker Ellis Laney on June 28th, 1955. Archie
graciously answered God’s call to transition to heaven on Sunday, November 19th, 2023, shortly after
the church service where he delivered his final sermon entitled, "He’s the best thing that ever happened
to you."
Known for his boundless love, care, and generosity, Archie was a beacon of warmth, never a stranger to
anyone and the cherished glue that held his family together. Archie was a graduate of Pageland High
School and attended Central Piedmont Community College. Archie had a thriving career working at First
Union Bank in Charlotte, NC until retirement. While retired, Archie enjoyed working as one of the top
sales associates at Cox’s Harley Davidson, Rock Hill, SC. He was also a member of the Mason Damascus
Lodge - No. 62.
Archie was a dedicated member of New Zion Missionary Baptist church where he served since his
childhood. Archie's spiritual journey unfolded at New Zion, where he not only led the senior choir,
following the footsteps of his father, Ellison Laney, Sr., but also served as a Sunday School teacher and a
valued member of the Trustee Board. Archie was also a leader on the young adult choir and men’s choir.
On April 14, 2019, Archie preached his initial sermon and was licensed as a minister.  Archie passionately
served the church under the guidance of his pastor, Rev. Ricky Haile.
Beyond his ministry, Archie found joy in singing, bowling, fishing, motorcycling, golfing and creating
lasting memories with his family.
Archie's legacy lives on through his loving wife, Mary Montgomery Laney, beloved daughter Archinya
Laney (Delvis) Ingram, and cherished grandsons, Delangelo and Antonio.
Archie is also survived by his brother Charles (Bonnie) Laney, Sr., and seven sisters: Naomi Laney
(Samuel) Jackson, Etta Laney McCombs, Hattie Laney (Levoid) Blakeney, Betty Laney Myers, Doris Laney
(Ozell) Thomas, Gwendolyn Laney (Collis, Jr.) Edwards, and Twanna Laney (Lester, Jr.) Brown. He is also
cherished and remembered by three sisters-in-law, two brothers-in-law, and a host of loving nieces,
nephews and cousins.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Ellison, Sr. and Bleaker Ellis Laney, brothers Ellison Laney, Jr.,
David Mayhue Laney, sisters Ruth Laney Moorehead, Janice Carolyn Laney and mother in-law and father
in-law, James and Naomi Montgomery.
