Richard Wade Cunningham, 67, passed away surrounded by loved ones on Wednesday, October 23, 2024 at MUSC in Lancaster, South Carolina. Born on December 8, 1956 in Lancaster, South Carolina to the late Rev. Cluster Cunningham and the late Gladys Wade Cunningham.
He was educated in the Lancaster County School District and was a machine operator for Tyson Foods in Monroe, North Carolina.
A lifelong lover of baseball, Richard found joy on the field, especially during his years playing with the Chat n Chew and Oakridge baseball teams. He embodied the spirit of the game, bringing enthusiasm, sportsmanship, and a competitive edge that made every match memorable.
Richard spent his life in Lancaster, where he was known for his warmth, wit, and steadfast loyalty to friends and family. His laughter was contagious, and his encouragement-whether on the baseball diamond or in everyday life-was heartfelt and sincere. Richard's legacy lives on in the memories he created and the love he shared with all who knew and loved him. His family, teammates, and friends will miss him dearly and remember him fondly for his dedication to those he loved and his passion for baseball.
Richard is survived by his five brothers, Danny Cunningham (Maranda) of Rock Hill, SC, Donald Wade (Clara) of Lancaster, SC, Micheal Cunningham of Bishopville, SC, Robert Earl Cunningham (Lisa) of Lancaster, SC, James Cunningham Jr. of New York, NY, three sisters, Shirley Cunningham, Regina Cunningham, Lesa Cunningham all of Lancaster, SC, and a host of other relatives and friends.
He was preceded in death by a daughter, Nicki Nicole Cunningham, three sisters, Josphine Cunningham, Rose Marie Cunningham, Diane Harris.
