Richard J. Drakeford Sr., humbly bowed to God’s will and peacefully entered into eternal rest on May 8, 2024 at his home in Heath Springs, SC. A son of the late Elmore and Frances Jackson Drakeford was born February 21, 1935 In Kershaw County, South Carolina
Richard was converted at an early age and joined Ebenezer AME Zion Church. He later joined Second Calvary Missionary Baptist Church. He was a member of Sweet Home Masonic Lodge # 79
Richard was educated in the Kershaw County School System and continued his education at Clinton Junior College in Rock Hill, SC. He later enlisted in the United Airforce serving as a Crash Rescue -Fireman. He was employed by Springs Industries and retired as a Supervisor in the Shipping Department after many years of dedicated service.
Richard was united in holy matrimony to Ruby L. Rutledge Drakeford who preceded him in death and one son Richard J. Drakeford Jr.
Richard affectionately known as “Dick” to family and friends enjoyed hunting, fishing, football, western movies and his dogs.
Left to cherish loving memories are two daughters, Eugenia Drakeford and Janice Drakeford both of Heath Springs, one aunt Willie Mae Jackson of Charlotte, NC, one brother-in-law, Herbie J. Rutledge (Melvina) of Heath Springs, SC, six sisters-in-law, Carrie Carter, Cleo Everett both of Newark, NJ, Patricia Rutledge, Shelby Rutledge of Heath Springs, SC, Marion Nurse, Christine (William) Chapman of Columbia, SC, a special niece Christin Jamison and nephew James Twitty and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins other relatives and friends.
