Richard's journey was one of purpose, learning, and service. He was educated in the Chester County School District and continued his pursuit of knowledge by earning a Master's Degree in Psychology from Florida State University. His passion for helping others led him to a fulfilling career as a counselor for Vocational Rehabilitation, where he made a difference in the lives of many.

Richard found joy in the simple pleasures of life-fishing on quiet days, analyzing the games of his favorite teams the Chicago Bulls and Carolina Panthers-writing, and deep critical thinking. His laughter and wisdom were gifts to his family and friends. He was happiest when spending time with his grandchildren, whom he adored beyond measure.

Richard's legacy of love and learning lives on through his devoted wife, Leslie Witherspoon; his children, Anastasia Crowder (Damell), Rudy Shannon, Johndra Roddey, all of Lancaster, SC, and his son, Omarion Perry of Great Falls, SC, He leaves behind seven precious grandchildren: Eddie Small Jr., Nevach Small, Harmony Bufford, Mya Allen, SorRaya Shannon, King Dye, and Ayad Crowder, one aunt, Viola Sanders of Great Falls, SC, his dog, Mayweather and host of nieces, nephews and other relatives and friends..

He was preceded in death by two sisters, Bernice Graham and Mary Sue Barber, and three brothers, Albert Witherspoon, Joe Lewis Caldwell, and Michael Caldwell.
