Ricky William Miller, quietly and privately, transitioned from this earthly life to that of being in God’s eternal presence on Monday, January 27, 2025. Ricky was born December 31, 1955 in Lancaster County, South Carolina. He was the son of the late Reverend Powell William Miller and the late Minister Eva MaeMiller James.
Ricky grew up in a very loving close-knit family. He attended Lancaster County Schools, graduating from Andrew Jackson High School (Class of 1974). He furthered his education by attending Columbia Commercial College, then located in Columbia, S.C., and Morris College, located in Sumter, S.C.with a degree in Business Administration. Ricky’s work experience was vast and his skill sets extended beyond what the average person possessed. Ricky could do everything from brick masonry, general carpentry, and manufactory work to leading a team of employees or working alongside others in business. Ricky lived a very colorful, vivid life! He was by no means a perfect man, as none of us are; but you will not find one more genuine, caring, loving and gracious as he was. He was well acquainted with the mistakes he made along the way; but he was ever so grateful for all that he had, and for what he cherished in life the most, which was his family and friends. Ricky simply loved people. He never met a stranger and a stranger always found a friend in him.
Ricky was a born-again believer in Christ Jesus. He grew up serving in ministry at an early age at Second Calvary Baptist Church under the then leadership of Dr. Herbert Washington. In the latter years of his life, Ricky continued to worship and serve at Second Calvary Missionary Baptist Church under the pastoral covering of Dr. James Coleman, whom he loved immensely! When Ricky was at church, everybody knew it! Whether he was reviewing the Sunday School lesson or when he was striking outleading a song, Ricky would let it be known that there was an “Amen” in the house!
Ricky leaves behind a loving family and his presence will be greatly missed! He married the love of his life Pearlene Tate Miller, soon after graduating from college. Though at the time of his death, their lives had grown in different directions, Ricky made it clear that his love for “Pearl” would never end! To their union two beautiful children were born: his daughter, Nikkina(Malcolm) McKnight from Rock Hill, South Carolina. Nikkinawas affectionally known as his “Pooh;” his joined-at-the-hip son, Tarik (Jasmine) Miller from Lancaster, South Carolina; his siblings: Elder Teresa (James) Jones from Garland, Texas; Minister Elaine Miller from the home; Pastor Eugene (Gwendolyn) Miller, from Columbia, South Carolina; Reverend Terrence (Lisha) Miller from York, South Carolina; Ronnie Mickle, from Kershaw, SC; Walter James, Jr. ; Melvenia(James) Frederick, Etheline James all from Camden, South Carolina; Barbara James and Doris (Steve) Seh from Washington DC; three grandchildren who were his pride and joy: 9 year-old Grayson McKnight, 5 year-old Logan McKnight, and 1 year-old Kamden Miller; Godson, Broderick Gaither, Jr. ;three aunts: Laura (Ernest) Witherspoon, Maebell Drakeford, and Mattie Drakeford and a host nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends. He was preceded in death by sister, Josephine James Stradford.
