Santonio Taurus Catoe, beloved son, father, brother, and friend, departed this life on April 12, 2025, in Jacksonville, North Carolina. Born to Angela Mellwain Carter and Roy Catoe Jr., Santonio lived a life full of purpose, passion, and service.
From an early age, Santonio accepted Christ and began his walk in faith. He was proud to serve in his church as the first Junior Trustee and a devoted member of the Usher Board, always ready with a warm smile and a helping hand.
Santonio courageously served his community as a USMC Marine for five years and eleven months. He was a dedicated K-9 officer, building strong bonds with both his partners in uniform and the dogs he trained and worked alongside. Off duty, he found solace and joy in the outdoors. A passionate fisherman and hunter, he was an active member of the Black Jack Hunting Club and the Hero Off Shore Adventure Club, where he shared countless adventures and built lasting friendships.
Family meant everything to Santonio. He was the proud father of Santonio T. Catoe Jr. and Maya Raine, both of Greenville, NC, and a loving father figure to his stepdaughters, Aryanna Cooper and Elizabeth Cooper. He leaves behind a large and loving family, including six sisters: NaKista Catoe, Melvin McMillon (Charles), Joyce Kirkland (Robert), Janice Carter, Belinda Carter, all of Lancaster, SC, and Robin Villasencio (Adrian) of Elgin, SC. He is also survived by five brothers: Shane Carter (Nicole) of Rock Hill, SC, David Mickles of Heath Springs, SC, Spencer Carter of Belleville, IL, Jamie Carter (Martina) of Columbia, SC, and Georgie Carter of Lancaster, SC.
He was the cherished grandson of Bernie Mellwain and Cora Lee Stevenson and shared a special bond with his dear friend Clarissa Marie Groover, who stood by his side with love and support. Two important men instrumental in his raising Andrew Harris and Carlisle Stevenson both of Lancaster, SC.
Santonio's spirit, laughter, and dedication will forever be remembered by those whose lives he touched. His legacy of his family and friends.
