Shirley Amn Blakeney Miller, affectionately known as "Kitty", departed this life peacefully in her home surrounded by her loving family on Sunday, December 8, 2024 at the age of 83, Born in Lancaster County, South Carolina on January 16, 1941, she was a cherished daughter of the late William Ganson Wright and Floree Funderburk.
She attended Barr Street School in Lancaster County for her education. Shirley shared 40 wonderful years with her beloved husband, Bosewell Blakeney. Their union brought the blessing of 5 sons. Her career was marked by dedication and excellence as a press operator at Duracell Batteries Inc. Shirley's hard work and commitment was admired by her colleagues and superiors. A woman of strong faith, she accepted Christ early in her life and was a devoted member of Rose Hill Baptist Church. Her dedication and service to the church included being a Sunday School teacher, member of the Pastor's Aid and Senior Choir, and former president and member of the Missionary Board. Her angelic voice graced the church on a weekly basis, a testament to her love for God, music, and worship. She was known for her nurturing spirit, which was reflected in her generosity to help others anytime she witnessed a need. Whether cooking one of her many delicious meals providing guidance with her insightful wisdom, or opening up her home for those needing a place to stay, Shirley's boundless love never turned anyone away. Shirley wisdom, wit, and warmth touched everyone she met. As an accomplished seamstress. Shirley often designed and handmade her own elegant outfits.
She always dressed to impress with her grace and style, and of course, her pearls.
In her later years, Shirley was blessed to find companionship again with her second husband, J.B. Miller. Together, they created many cherished memories in their 11 years of marriage.
Shirley's legacy of love, laughter, and unwavering faith lives on in those she leaves behind. She is survived by: her sons,
Rev. Ronnie Blakeney, Sr., Jeffrey (Eusheakia) Blakeney, Sr., Wayne (Grace) Blakeney, Sr., all of Lancaster, SC, and Jamie (Senait) Blakeney of Rock Hill, SC; her sisters, Ester Strain of Denmark, SC, and Jannie Wright of Lancaster, SC; her brother, James (Pamela) Wright, Sr., of Lancaster, SC; her sister-in-law, Crystal Funderburk of Summerville, SC; 20 grandchildren; 27 great-grandchildren; 5 great-great-grandchildren; her devoted caregiver, Julie Waldrop; and many nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives, and dear friends.
Shirley was preceded in death by both of her beloved spouses; her parents; her infant son, Ricky Blakeney; her grandson, Ronnie Blakeney, Jr.; her daughter-in-law, Veronica Blakeney; and her siblings: Roy Wright, Sr., Floyd Wright, Sr., Carl Funderburk, Virgileen Brooks, and Patricia Stevens.
Her light will forever shine in the hearts of all who were fortunate enough to know her.
