Simon Harris Sr.

Mr. Simon “Bunk” Harris, Sr., age 88, entered into eternal rest on Friday, May 15, 2026. He was born on March 6, 1938, in Kershaw County, South Carolina, to the late Eddie Harris and the late Racheal Harris.

Mr. Harris attended Kershaw County public schools where he completed his education. He was a dedicated and hardworking man who spent many years as a truck driver. He faithfully worked for Thompson Logging for over 20 years and later retired from The Budd Group.

At an early age, Simon joined Ebenezer AME Zion Church, where he remained a devoted member throughout his life. He held many positions and offices within the church.  He will be greatly missed.

Known affectionately as “Bunk,” he enjoyed the simple pleasures of life and found great joy in fishing, hunting, and gardening. He was well known for his kind spirit, strong work ethic, and love for his family and community.

He was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Beatrice Harris; his parents, Eddie and Racheal Harris; his brothers, Rufus Harris, Thomas Lee Harris, and Edward Harris; and his sisters, Creola Shropshire, Louise Jackson, Sarah Foster, Nancy Cooper, Margaret Buford, and Jessie Lee Harris.

Those left to cherish his precious memories include one son, Gregory Harris of Heath Springs, South Carolina; one daughter, Renee Harris Clinton of Lancaster, South Carolina; one brother, English Roy Harris (Helen) of Camden, South Carolina; two sisters, Melvina Rutledge (Herbert) of Heath Springs, South Carolina, Sylvesta Cook of Teaneck, New Jersey, and brother-in-law Artis Clifford Buford of Kershaw, South Carolina; four grandchildren, Trayvon Harris of Charlotte, NC, Jonaiqua Harris of Columbia, SC, Candice Harrisof Charlotte, NC, and DeAnthony Stewart of Lancaster, SC; four great-grandchildren; along with a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives, and dear friends.
