Sylvia Ree Drakeford

Mrs. Sylvia Ree Drakeford, age 74, entered eternal rest on her birthday, June 26, 2025, at her residence in Kershaw, South Carolina. Sylvia was born on June 26, 1951, in Kershaw County to the late Lola Kirkland Patterson and the late Rayford Johnson.

Sylvia was a devoted member of Mt. Zion Baptist Church in Kershaw, where she faithfully served for many years in various capacities. She was a dedicated missionary and a committed member of the Kitchen Committee, Usher Board, and Choir. She also served as Sunday School Secretary and Teacher, always sharing her faith and kindness with others.

Educated in the Lancaster County School District, Sylvia was a proud 1971 graduate of Andrew Jackson High School. She married the love of her life, Mr. Wilbur L. Drakeford, with whom she cherished 52 years.

Sylvia had a passion for cooking, playing bingo, and visiting the sick and shut-in, always lending a helping hand and a warm smile to those in need.

She leaves to cherish her precious memory her devoted husband, Wilbur L. Drakeford of Kershaw, SC; one loving daughter, Stephanie Thompson (Kevin) of Kershaw, SC; an honorary daughter, Sierra Johnson of Kershaw, SC; and an honorary son, Corey Sweetenburg (Jackie) of Cassatt, SC.

She is also survived by four sisters: Susan Brown of Kershaw, SC, Angela Patterson (Larry King) of Lancaster, SC, Diane Miller and Annie Ree Kelly both of Kershaw, SC; two brothers: Johnny Patterson (Cassandra) of Augusta, GA, and Curtis Patterson (Yvette) of West Haven, CT; and a special brother, Wilbert Wright (Mary) of Kershaw, SC.

Sylvia held a special place in her heart for her nieces and nephews, including Dedrick Stokes (Iris) of Kershaw, SC; Sakeeda Hinson (Mike) of Jacksonville, FL; and Chantel Clyburn (Corey Kelly) of Kershaw, SC. She also leaves behind ten beloved grandchildren, a sister-in-law, Gwendolyn Hartzogof Kershaw, SC and a special friend, Alma Izzard, along with many other relatives and friends who will miss her dearly.

She was preceded in death by a son, Kevin Johnson, a sister, Francis Cauthen, two brothers. Robert Lee Patterson, J.C. Patterson, 

Sylvia’s life was one of faith, service, and love. Her legacy of kindness, generosity, and devotion to her family, church, and community will live on in the hearts of all who knew and loved her.
