Mr. Taft Leroy McDonald was born to the late Lemon and Matilda Brown McDonald on February 7, 1958 in Charlotte, North Carolina.
Taft peacefully entered into his eternal rest on Wednesday, June 25, 2025 at MUSC Hospital in Lancaster, South Carolina.
At an early age, Taft joined Mowing Glade A.M.E Zion Church, in Charlotte, North Carolina. He later joined Mt Calvary A.M.E Zion Church in Lancaster, South Carolina, and has been a member there for 56 years.
Taft graduated from Lancaster High School in 1976. He later attended Denmark Technical College, in Denmark, South Carolina.
Taft was kind with a big heart and a warm, infectious smile that lit up any room. He was a very funny and jovial person, famous for making everyone laugh. Taft always tried to encourage others and keep his family on their toes with his sharp mind and wit. In Taft’s latter years, he was very dormant and reserved, but still very outspoken.
Taft enjoyed all sports, especially basketball and football. He was once an talented basketball player. His favorite basketball teams were: USC Gamecocks, North Carolina Tarheels, and the Charlotte Hornets. His favorite football teams were: The Carolina Panthers, and Pittsburg Steelers.
Taft was also an avid card player. He really enjoyed playing cards, especially with his brothers and other close family and friends. Taft will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved him.
He leaves to cherish his fond memories his daughter Arielle McDonald, his grandson, Kaden Taft Cherry, and his life partner, Gale Morris. He also is survived by his 8 siblings; Aaronita Caldwell, Willie Jordan (Billy), Bernice McDonald, Michael McDonald (Yvonne), Sharon McDaniel (Donald), LueElla Richardson (Milton), Rufus McDonald (Gloria), and Valerie McDonald. He also has 7 nieces and 12 nephews, and a host of other cousins, relatives, and friends.
