Tinia N. James peacefully passed away on Sunday, January 11, 2026, at MUSC Kershaw Health Medical Center in Camden, South Carolina.
She was born on April 21, 1966, in Mecklenburg County, North Carolina, to the late Cole L. Newman and the late Alberta Wright Newman.
Tinia received her high school diploma and furthered her education by earning a degree in Welding. She was united in holy matrimony to Nyanza James, with whom she shared a loving life and home.
She was a faithful and devoted member of Belmont Baptist Church in Westville, South Carolina, where she truly loved her church and church family. Her faith was a guiding light throughout her life.
Tinia embraced life fully and found joy in many simple pleasures. She loved cooking, caring for flowering plants, and spending peaceful time fishing—often sharing her catch with family and friends. She was an avid doll collector and had a heart for children, lovingly caring for and mentoring many throughout her life. Her nurturing spirit and generosity left a lasting impact on all who knew her.
Left to cherish fond and loving memories are her husband, Nyanza James of Kershaw, SC; one son, Marcellus Newman of Kershaw, SC; three adopteddaughters, Shakirah James and Alleayah James, both of Kershaw, SC, and Jayda James of Charlotte, NC; three brothers, Tony Newman, Kenneth Newman, and Donald Newman, all of Kershaw, SC; five sisters, Betty Smith, Dianne Newman, Carolyn Lewis (Douglas), Cathy Stover (Randy), and Eveline Crawford (Dominique), all of Kershaw, SC; one grandchild; special friends, Jackie Young, Robert Harrelson and April Herndon; her devoted caregiver, Alleayah James; and a host of nieces, cousins, other relatives, and friends.
In addition to her parents, Tinia was preceded in death by one brother, Leonard Newman, and her mother-in-law, Dorothy James.
Tinia’s life was one of love, service, and compassion. Her memory will forever live on in the hearts of those who were blessed to know her.
