Mr. Wilbur "Pete" Leon Drakeford passed away on October 18, 2025, in Kershaw, South Carolina. He was born on September 8, 1952, in Camden, South Carolina, to the late Jason Drakeford and the late Nannie Jackson.
Wilbur was educated in the Kershaw County School District. He was a faithful member of Flat Rock Baptist Church during his youth and later joined Mt. Zion Baptist Church in Kershaw, where he served as a dedicated member of the Usher Board.
He was employed by Springs Industries for 25 years and later worked with Sowell's Landscape and Lawncare until his retirement. Wilbur was a man who enjoyed life's simple pleasures. He loved mechanic work, landscaping, gardening, watching old western movies, shooting pool, driving his truck, and sharing good conversation with family and friends.
He was preceded in death by his loving wife, Sylvia Drakeford, six sisters and three brothers.
Cherishing his memory are his daughter, Stephanie Thompson (Kevin) of Kershaw, SC; a sister, Gwendolyn Hartzug of Camden, SC; a brother, James W. Drakeford of Washington, D.C.; ten grandchildren; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends who will miss him dearly.
Wilbur "Pete" Drakeford will be remembered for his hard work, his generosity, and his kind spirit. His legacy of love and faith will continue to live on in the hearts of all who knew and loved him.
